Job Description

Groundwork Coffee specializes in batch-roasted, certified organic coffees and artisanal teas. From our humble roots as a rare book store and cafe back in 1990, Groundwork would go on to become one of the first certified organic coffee roasters in Southern California, as well as the largest organic coffee roaster in Los Angeles. A truly local pioneer in fair trade and fairly traded coffee and tea sourcing, we remain committed to sustainable business practices, including maintaining direct relationships with growers and importers who promote responsible coffee and tea production. From the ground up, Groundwork is steadfast in its commitment to the values of quality, sustainability and community.

We are currently looking to hire a career-minded candidate for the position of Sales & Business Development Representative to service Portland, OR.

The successful candidate will be responsible for growing market share within the territory. Qualified individuals will process direct B-to-B sales and closing experience in markets such as -- but not limited to -- grocery, food & beverage, coffee service, or office supplies. As a Sales & Business Development Representative, you will visit customers' locations on a scheduled basis, perform basic equipment preventative maintenance, analyze account purchases while looking for opportunities, and prospect for new business.

Job Requirements

The applicant must have the ability to complete individual goals, possess a degree of motivation, have good organizational skills, work both independently and within a team environment, and have strong interpersonal skills.

This full-time position requires food and beverage experience, with coffee experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have a college degree and is a self-motivated, high-energy individual, possessing significant cold-calling experience with a proven ability to create a benefit for change, and strong closing skills.

about Groundwork Coffee

For more than 25 years, Groundwork has been a homegrown coffee and tea destination, handcrafting delicious drinks from the finest ingredients. Our borderline-obsessive commitment to each cup and every customer — in warm, inviting cafés that capture the flavor of their neighborhoods — is a fundamental part of our story. Come to think of it, it is our story.

Groundwork rose from the sands of Venice Beach, CA, as a single coffee and tea shop (complete with a custom-built, small-batch roaster) that also sold rare and used books. Local demand soon became so great, we began roasting 24/7 and, wisely, got out of the book business.

Flash-forward a few years: Our single-roaster operation morphed into one of the first certified organic coffee roasters in California and, now, a certified organic roaster in Portland. Our sustainable, relationship-based, organic coffee sourcing set an industry standard, as did our solar-powered, low-emissions roasting technology. Today, we have multiple café locations around L.A. and in Portland, and distribute our coffees and teas throughout the U.S. Our wholesale division, Groundwork Coffee Co., is the leading provider of brewed organic coffee in Southern California and has been the coffee of choice at The Academy Awards®, The Emmy Awards, The Grammy Awards, and countless other shows.
